Dr. Joseph Ryarasa Nkurunziza
Bio: Dr. Joseph R, Nkurunziza, graduated from the National University of Rwanda as medical doctor. For the last 8 years he worked as a physician and a Public Health Expert He is passionate about public health, human rights and peace building. Previously, he worked with the Earth Institute at Columbia University for the Millennium Village Project in Rwanda, as health coordinator and with Drew Cares International as a Clinical Service Director, implementing HIV care and treatment programs within the Rwanda Defense Force.He worked for four years and a half as a HIV clinician at the Rwanda Military Hospital and as a Clinical Service Specialist at the US Embassy Rwanda. He a co-founder and a board member of Health Development Initiative and the Center for Public health & Development. He is also the deputy legal representative of Access to health Rwanda Currently the Founder and Country Director of Never Again Rwanda, a Peace building and social Justice organization that started in 2002 as a response to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, He sees the importance of empowering youth, as the future leaders of Rwanda. In his work he focuses on peace building and social justice that will give young people the guidance, encouragement and knowledge they need to be active citizens. One of his key achievements was the honorary award by Junior Chambers International as one of the 2010 ten most outstanding young persons of the world (TOYP 2010) at Osaka in Japan.
